Case Studies
As a resource to our members and to better inform current
projects, the Coalition has been gathering case studies
on sustainable packaging initiatives and best practices. The SPC has completed the following case studies, available for public distribution:
- Origins/Aveda: Origins & Renewable Energy download
- Crown Holdings, Inc.: Crown’s Innovative SuperEnd® Design download
- Michelman, Inc: Polymeric Emulsion Coating for Corrugated Produce Boxes download
- SmartCycle: SmartCycle PET Clamshells download
- Starbucks: Starbucks’ Source Reduction Success download
The SPC is always interested in expanding our library of completed case studies. If
you have a case study you would like to share with the group,
please contact GreenBlue.
Design Guidelines for Sustainable Packaging
The SPC has released a comprehensive design guidance resource for packaging designers and developers.
The guidance provides a framework to approach sustainable packaging design;
it also outlines various design strategies and reference materials. This document is available for purchase by
non-members
and free for SPC members.
Definition Project
The purpose of this project was to take the important first
step in articulating an agreed upon definition of the term “sustainable
packaging” so that all parties are working toward the
same vision. By providing a common framework, the packaging
industry can evaluate current efforts, identify opportunities
and begin to pursue strategies to develop sustainable packaging
materials and systems.
The SPC released version 1.0 of the Definition of Sustainable Packaging in the fall of 2005. To view the definition click
