SPC Industry Leadership Committee on Foodservice Packaging

Scope:Efforts to make foodservice packaging more sustainable are often challenged by a broad set of regulations and also the barrier to recycling that often results from food contamination. Foodservice operations are also diverse, and solutions to one operation may not be applicable to another operation. Nonetheless, common opportunities to make improvements do exist, and best practices may be uncovered. This group exists to identify those best practices, develop solutions, and share knowledge.
Objectives:
- Investigate the sustainability considerations that are specific to foodservice packaging, including material sourcing options and back-of-house packaging
- Identify gaps between existing initiatives where the development of new knowledge is needed
- Generate complementary efforts to other organizations' work on post-consumer foodservice packaging recovery, including composting and recycling.
